Been In An Accident? Signs Your Cars Frame Has Been Damaged

If you've been in an accident, you might think that all the car damage will be on the body. But, that might not be the case. There could be damage to the frame. Unfortunately, frame damage isn't something that should be ignored. In fact, frame damage can pose a serious risk for you and your family. If you haven't had your car inspected for frame damage, now's the time to have that done. If you're experiencing any of the problems described below, contact an auto body repair shop. Your car may have sustained frame damage in the accident.

Undercarriage Has Visible Damage

If you think your frame was damaged during an accident, take a closer look. Frame damage is often visible once you're able to get a birds-eye view. Lay down on the ground and look under your car. If you can see any dents in the undercarriage, it's best to have the frame inspected at a professional auto body repair shop.

Doors Don't Fit Right

If you think your car might have sustained frame damage during the accident, take a look at the doors. You can learn a lot about the frame by inspecting your car doors. First, the doors should fit evenly on all sides of the door frame. Second, the doors should open smoothly. Finally, the doors should close on the first attempt. That means you shouldn't need to open and close the door several times to get a secure latch. While you're checking your doors, put the hood and trunk through the same tests. If you notice any issues, have the frame inspected right away.

Wheels Aren't Communicating

If you've noticed something off about the way your car drives now, the frame may have been damaged in the accident. Frame damage can interfere with wheel tracking. If you're not sure about the wheel tracking, find a smooth dirt road and give your car a quick test. Drive a straight path for several yards and then put your car in park. Get out of the car and take a look at the tracks your car has made. If the tracks are straight, there's no problem with tracking. But, if the path is uneven, it's time to have the frame inspected.

Car Is Experiencing Alignment Issues

If your car has been in an accident and you suspect frame damage, pay attention to the wheel alignment. Frame damage can cause your wheels to go out of alignment more often. There's an easy way to test the alignment. With your car in motion, take your hands off the steering wheel for a few yards. Your car should continue in a straight path. If it doesn't, there's a problem with the alignment. Go ahead and have your car aligned. If the problem persists, visit a car body repair shop as soon as possible.

Choosing The Right Auto Paint Color

After my car was badly damaged in a hailstorm, I realized that I needed to get my entire ride repainted. I talked with my auto insurance company to get permission to take it somewhere, and they were really accommodating. However, after I arrived at the auto paint shop, I realized that I had another problem—choosing the right paint color. I wanted a color that would stand out, but not one that would look like I was showing off. Fortunately, the technicians at the auto body shop took the time to talk with me about my options. This blog is filled with information about auto paint, so that you can find a color that works well for your car.
