4 Ways You Can Protect Your Car From Different Types of Damage

When it comes to keeping your car in good condition, things actually go much further than simply doing your best not to have accidents, which is obvious. There are a lot of things you can be doing every day that put your car at risk of being damaged in different ways. Here are some of the things you should keep in mind with regards to avoiding damage to your car:

1. Park it in the garage

All in all, the safest place for you to park your car when you are at home will generally be in the garage. This will protect it from getting hit by another vehicle if you normally park it on the street. It will also protect it from objects hitting it from kids playing near the car or damages to the paint from animals climbing on it. It can even protect the car from a branch falling on it or the wind brushing a bush up against the side of it.

2. Have your car hand washed

When it comes to washing your car, you can take it through the drive-through carwash, but when you do this you run the risk of something being in the brushes that can scratch the car. Also, there will be water spots left on the car that can affect the condition of your paint down the line. Instead, opt to wash your car by hand.

3. Protect your car during harsh weather conditions

When you live where it gets extremely hot, you will want to keep your car in the shade and use a protective visor in the windshield to protect the integrity of your dashboard and interior. In windy conditions, you will want to protect the car from trees that can blow sticks, bulbs, and pine cones onto the car. In the snow, you will want to make sure you protect your car from getting snow piled on it. Also, when it comes to deicing the windshield, use a scraper and the defroster. Do not try to pull the wipers up from the windshield while they are stuck, or you can break them.

4. Do not park in the wrong spot in a parking lot

Parking next to the shopping cart return puts your car at risk of being hit by shopping carts, which can led to some pretty bad scratches and dings. Parking in the more crowded spot of the parking lot may get you closer to the doors, but it also increases the chances of your car getting hit by another car. That's why parking spot selection is so important.

If you have dings, dents, or scratches, consider going into an auto body repair shop, such as Olson's Auto Body, to have your vehicle examined.
